Leadership and Management

Through the MPA program, I have gained experience applying organizational theory, leadership strategies, and ethical decision-making frameworks to real-world scenarios.

In practice, I have learned that leadership is not only about directing others but also about building trust, empowering colleagues, and fostering environments where innovation and collaboration can thrive.

By drawing on both academic learning and professional experiences, I have strengthened my capacity to manage complexity, adapt to challenges, and motivate others toward shared goals. Ultimately, this competency reflects my commitment to serving the public through leadership that is accountable, ethical, and oriented toward positive and sustainable impact.

Intersectoral Management

This essay examines intersectoral collaboration between public, nonprofit, and private sectors, focusing on how organizations align goals, resources, and performance measures. It highlights the role of public administrators as leaders, conveners, brokers, and encouragers in building trust, fostering transparency, and coordinating resources. A COVID-19 case study shows how collaborative governance was leveraged to accelerate vaccine development and recovery efforts.

Completing this analysis strengthened my understanding of what effective leadership looks like in cross-sector environments. I learned that successful collaboration depends not only on formal structures and agreements, but also on the ability to build trust, communicate clearly, and bring diverse stakeholders together around shared goals. The COVID-19 case example reinforced how essential adaptive leadership and coordinated problem-solving are during periods of crisis. This assignment deepened my appreciation for the public administrator’s role in fostering partnerships that advance equity, accountability, and the public interest.

CAPCOR Case Study

This case study examines CAPCOR, a nonprofit organization at a critical point as Capital City’s economy shifts from traditional industries to high-tech firms. Archibald Poole, CAPCOR’s director of business expansion and retention, is tasked with developing strategies to sustain and grow the organization. The report emphasizes the need for strategic planning, SWOT analysis, and resource alignment to guide CAPCOR through these changes.

Analyzing this case deepened my understanding of how nonprofit leaders must adapt to shifting economic environments while staying grounded in mission-driven work. It highlighted the importance of strategic planning not as a one-time exercise, but as an ongoing process that requires flexibility, foresight, and collaboration. I also gained a stronger appreciation for how resource alignment can make or break an organization’s ability to navigate change. This assignment reinforced my belief that effective public and nonprofit leadership require balancing innovation with stability to ensure long-term impact and service to the community.
